Spring Flower Photoshoot

By

The weather has been really nice lately so the boyfriend and I figured that the best way to celebrate our freedom was to have a cute spring photoshoot. The shoot was super fun, we went to a little park by my house where a gentle breeze kept us nice and cool. There were a couple of kids riding their bikes around the trail who told me that I looked beautiful and asked whether I was a model. I was feeling super bloated that day, so it helped bring my self esteem up quite a bit!

I hope you’ll enjoy this sneak peek at our little photoshoot as much as I enjoyed taking part in it!

And now for some super awesome photography courtesy of yours truly!

My model wasn’t too co-operative. He makes up for his lack of modelling skills with amazing boyfriend-ing skills, though :)

Now that I’m home and I have some time to relax without any school or studying in the way, it is painfully obvious to me how bad this past year has been for my fitness and general well-being.

This year has been ridiculously difficult. Law school did not come easy, and a lot of time that I would have spent outside doing activities or working out was devoted to studying. Plus, when I was studying, I was not watching what I was eating. At all.

All this to say that I will get back to the way I was last summer, fit and active, and I’ll hopefully get there by my birthday, June 27th. I have a gym membership, and I’ve already started to make use of that. I went to a muscle class, zumba, and hot yoga yesterday, and did a cardio circuit today. I can barely walk.

However, as important as going to the gym is, it’s not always practical. Therefore, I’ve found some great workouts to do at home! I want to share these with all of you, and please do let me know if you have any to share with me.

I’ve found that doing 3 sets of 30 reps of the following four exercises gives you an amazing cardio workout, and helps tone your muscles, too!

You can definitely expect updates about my progress. I will not let myself fall back into the bad habits I developed this year, it’s just not worth it. Exercise, diet, and rest are all my main priorities right now.

Math conference days 2 & 3

By
May 13th, 2012

Day 3 of the conference rolled around and I was totally missing home. I get so homesick anytime I’m away for more than a day or two! It was nice travelling, and we’d been shopping quite a bit, but home is always the most relaxing and soothing place for me, especially after working as hard as I did on my exams and my GMAT.

Here’s another shot of the view from our hotel room, so pretty!

So anyway, let me tell you all about the math conference. Honestly, attending the lectures reminded me how much I love law school! Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy math (especially statistics), but this was a conference specifically for teachers. Therefore, the lectures were mostly about teaching and how to engage students and the curriculum and such. One lecture we attended was actually all about how to structure a math question so that it interests students. I have to admit, I found it all just a tiny bit boring. But, I got to spend quality time with my mother, so it was all worth it!

It was also a nice break from wearing makeup! Here’s what I wore for day 3 of the conference:

Shirt: Forever 21
Cardigan: Wilfred from Aritzia
Scarf: American Eagle
Leggings: Forever 21
Moccasins: Capezio

Once the conference was done, we spent quite some time exploring the city. The conference was held in Kingston, Canada’s original capital. There were so many beautiful old buildings and historic sights to see! There are also nine jails within the Kingston area. Fun stuff, no?

One of the jails.

We also got to experience some really delicious dining at our hotel. The restaurant has apparently won several awards and the food was absolutely amazing! We claimed a lovely little booth and sat there every day, so cute!

Mommy at our booth.

Seafood risotto with shrimp and scallops, so yummy.

Gnocchi with grilled chicken, my fave.

Crème brûlée, my favorite dessert.

S’more platter with a homemade marshmallow, so amazing! You hungry yet?

Math Conference – Day 1

By
May 10th, 2012

Because smart is sexy, right?

So I finished school a couple of weeks ago and wrote my GMAT on Saturday – you’d think that I’d be ready for some well-deserved rest and relaxation, right? Wrong! Not me. Of course, just a couple of days after I finish all of my school related business, I agree to accompany my mother to a conference for math teachers in a nearby city.

The car ride was pretty scenic and I planned on taking photos along the way, but I completely passed out half an hour in. I’ll have to make up for it on the way back!

Upon arriving, we experienced a bit of an unpleasant surprise. The hotel where we were supposed to stay was absolutely horrendous! It was a big chain hotel and we had booked a suite, so we expected something decent. Instead, we walked into a tiny, dim, stuffy room, featuring an awful little sofa bed. Even better, I opened the curtains to see spider webs covered in mayflies just outside the room. I debated posting pictures, but I wouldn’t want to subject my amazing readers to that. Just thinking about it now is giving me shivers!

So, we went for a little walk in search of something a bit more decent. Luckily, we found another big chain hotel, this one overlooking a super cute lake. We asked to see their rooms and were completely elated as soon as we walked in! Our new room is very airy, with enormous sleep number beds and a gorgeous view. Best of all, there is no gross infestation of mayflies! Win!

Our view. Isn’t it just quaint?

Once we were all settled into our hotel, we decided to go for a walk in search of somewhere to eat. We found a really nice pasta place near our hotel and decided to check it out. The place was great and our waitress was super sweet, even when I accidentally asked her whether the tap water was safe to drink, forgetting that we were in a fairly large city. Total facepalm moment.

Inside the restaurant, so cute!

The food at this place did not disappoint. I ordered a baked pasta, cappelletti with tomato sauce and mozzarella. It tasted totally homemade! The only downside is that I’ve have to work it off this morning. It was so worth it though!

Noms.

It may not look like it, but the portions at this place were enormous! After we finished eating, a walk was well in order.

Found this place while we were walking and thought it was super pretty. No idea what it is, though.

Anyway, I meant to post this last night, but again, I completely passed out. Seems like all my studying and lack of sleep is finally catching up with me! I can’t wait until I’m not constantly tired anymore.

Apparently, this is what happens when you try to visit me while I’m studying for the GMAT. Poor Mips.
